We offer a series of online and face-to-face training courses to support your development.

Mandatory training

Before you can book training, you need to create an account on The Education People Website.

During your first year, you must complete your Training, Support and Development Standards workbook and the following courses:

  • Introduction to attachment
  • Safe care
  • Foundation first aid
  • Understanding trauma training
  • Record keeping.

In your second year, you should complete the following courses:

  • Allegations made against foster carers and how to safeguard against these​
  • Child development​
  • Managing challenging behaviour​
  • Equality and diversity​.

In your third year you should complete the following courses:

  • Mental health awareness​
  • Understanding loss and grief​
  • Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)​ and Attachment Theory​.

Safeguarding Against Radicalisation - The Prevent Duty

When you were approved as a foster carer, you will have completed the Safeguarding against radicalisation - The Prevent Duty course. That course needs to be recompleted every 3 years.

To complete the course:

  1. Log in or create an account on the Kent Safeguarding Children Multi-agency Partnership website - if you're creating an account, you'll need to select 'KCC Foster Carer' from the organisation unit dropdown.
  2. Once you're logged in, go to the catalogue (top right).
  3. Search for Safeguarding Against Radicalisation - The Prevent Duty and select 'view.
  4. Select 'Enrol'.

eLearning

You can also attend eLearning courses to support your development. Find out what courses are available on the AC Education website.

Before you can join a course you'll need to request access to the course you want to complete.

You should get an email confirming your access within 2 working days, but you may want to check your spam and junk folders before getting in touch.

Level 3 and level 4 diplomas

If you're interested in completing a level 3 or level 4 diploma, speak to your fostering social worker. These qualifications can also form part of your Payment for Skills development.
